Bette Jean Mahoney-Johnson, of Jackson, went home to be with the Lord on May 1, 2018 after a courageous battle, at the age of 65. On July 27, 1996 she married the love of her life, Leon Johnson. Bette was a lifelong educator teaching in Dade County and Little River school district. She was a member of United Peoples Community Church in Jackson. She enjoyed cooking up delicious food, serving the community, and spending time with her family. Bette was preceded in death by her parents, Evelina and Sylvester Mahoney; beloved husband, Leon Johnson; brothers, James Dean Mahoney, Sylvester Mahoney Jr, William Gillespie; sisters, Aloha Jean Ross, Kathleen Mahoney, and Rita White Livingston. Bette leaves to cherish in her memory, sons Julian McIntosh of Jackson, Christopher Smith of Jackson and daughter, Zari Johnson of Ann Arbor. Siblings, Sandra Hopson, Gail W. (Donald) Mahoney, Wallace (Shaniece) Mahoney, Ellen (Ron) Jackson, Daniel Mahoney, Anita Glaspie, Pleas Seals Jr of Jackson; Irene Seals (Joe) Westley of Turrell, Arkansas, Diana Seals Houston of Dallas, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and grandchildren. Bette’s family will receive friends and guests at United Peoples Community Church (1500 S Milwaukee St.) in Jackson on Saturday, May 5, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Billy Pierce Jr. officiating.
