Elaine Mae Jensen

Our dear Mother, Elaine Jensen, of Jackson, MI, with her husband by her bedside, left this world behind to begin her journey through the streets of gold on Friday, April 13, 2018 at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospital in Jackson, MI. She was 83 years old at the time of her death.

Elaine Mae Kleis was born on August 31, 1934 in Zeeland, MI to “Hank” Kleis and Hattie [Schippers] Kleis.  Elaine was the youngest of 6 children and is survived by one sister, Mrs. Marian Scholten of Holland, MI.

Elaine graduated from Zeeland High School in May of 1952 and became engaged one month later to Vaughn Bernard Jensen. She went to work in the offices of Hart & Cooley in Holland, while her fiancé went to serve in the Korean War for 2 years. Upon Vaughn’s return in 1954, Elaine’s mother passed away, postponing their original marriage date by a few months. They were married February 4, 1955 in the 2nd Reformed Church of Zeeland by Reverend George Hilson and celebrated 63 years of marriage at the time of her passing. This couple made their first home in Zeeland, MI, with her father before purchasing their first home in Holland, MI.  During the first years of marriage, Vaughn worked at Fyneweaver Service Station and Elaine continued working at Hart and Cooley until they began having children, then Elaine made motherhood her full time job.  Vaughn and Elaine were called into pastoral ministries on Dec. 3, 1959. In 1960, this young family moved to Marion, IN where Vaughn began attending Marion College to prepare for the ministry. While there, Elaine supported her husband in his studies while serving her growing family.  Vaughn and Elaine began their pastoral ministry together in 1964 at various Wesleyan churches within the state of Michigan, their present service of ministry being at Trinity Wesleyan Church in Jackson, MI.

She is survived by her husband Vaughn and children Kelly [Debbie] Jensen of Jackson, Paula [Jack] Howard of Brooklyn, Scott [Valerie] Jensen of Grant, and adopted family members Yori [Tanya] Horan of Grand Rapids, ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, with one more on the way.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 20 from 5-8 p.m. and Saturday, April 21, one hour prior to the service, at Trinity Wesleyan Church in Jackson, MI
